My passion for traveling began when I was first introduced to Marco Polo in my elementary school history class. I was facinated by Marco’s adventures and often found myself daydreaming of what the other side of the world might look like. Marco Polo soon became my imaginary friend. We traveled the Silk Road countless amounts of time. I knew then as I know now, that traveling to far off distant places would be my passion.
Marco was not completely responsible for instilling this desire in me to travel. He had some help from Mrs. Penelope our local librarian. She broaden my view of the world by introducing me to all kinds of books, that took me to beaitiful places that I could never even imagine existed. I am grateful to her and Marco for fueling the fire in a small childs imaginatiom and allowing it to bring my dreams to fruition as an adult.
I hope to share my stories and helpful tidbits, as Marco and Mrs. Penelope did with me and perhaps you will develop a Passion 2 Travel Too!
Yvonne
Where did the wanderlust that has played such a big part of my life begin? It’s hard to say. In a way it began before I was born when my father joined the Navy and went off to fight WWII. The tales he told me of Pompeii and North Africa, of the Panama Canal, and the Pacific islands sparked a love of adventure in a little boy’s dreams that burns today in an old man’s heart.
Yvonne and I share many things. We both love libraries and as children we dreamed of Asian adventure. After 60 years, I still remember the book that kindled that blaze. It was, Genghis Khan and the Mongol Horde, by Harold Lamb. When Yvonne came to me with a plan to spend a year in China, Genghis rode out of the mists of time again. I could barely say “Yes” fast enough. As the Grateful Dead said, “What a long strange trip it has been.” I wouldn’t have it any other way. And I hope we can share many adventures to come!
