Szecheny Mineral Springs and Baths, Budapest

Putting together a bucket list? Don’t forget to leave a few blank spaces for discoveries you will write in as you go. The Szechenyi Baths, in Budapest is just such a place. I had never heard of Szechenyi when we started planning our trip. Eighteen separate pools and hot tubs. Numerous steam baths and dry saunas, some with aromatherapy. Massage and other holistic medicinal therapies.  A fun pool. All of this housed in a gorgeous, almost palace like, facility completed in 1913. The wow factor is huge.

People have been drawn to the natural hot springs around Budapest since the early bronze age. In fact the springs were what brought the Romans here in the 2nd century BC. With the spine warming tingle of naturally hot mineral water, it is easy to see why the Romans wanted to build their territorial capital here.  The waters are invigorating, especially if you have joint problems like I do. Szechenyi is the oldest mineral bath located on the Pest side of the Danube. Since the water is hot, almost 170 degrees fahrenheit, the outdoor pools can be open all year. It is an unforgettable place and a most memorable day. Truly, one for the bucket list!

Albertina Museum ~ Austria Vienna Photo Gallery

The Albertina Museum was established in 1805.  It is located in the inner stadt  district in Austria.  The museum was once a palace.  Unfortunately,it was bombed heavily during the war, resulting in major damages. Throughout the years the museum has been under construction at various times.  In 2003 final reconstructions were made to the structure.

The Museum houses a permanent collection of paintings from the various art movements.  It contains  a diverse collection of masterpieces, with paintings by Chagal, Monet, Miro and Picasso, among other great artist.  It is a great museum for beginner art lovers.  It is not too overwhelming and can be enjoyed over the course of two days.  Make sure to check out entrance fee discounts. For those of you who have never been to the Albertina, there is a photo gallery attached to this post for your visual pleasure.  Enjoy!

If you like Keith Haring, see my photo gallery for photos from the Abertina Haring Exhibition.

Keith Haring Photo Gallery ~ A Tribute To My Brother Peter Munoz

June 24th,  2018 –  It has been 4 years since my brother Peter was called to his “Spiritual Journey.”  My brother was a great man with the soul of a child.  He was loved by everyone.  He is missed dearly. As a tribute to him, on the 4th year of his passing,  Z and I visited the Keith Haring Exhibition in the Albertina Museum in Vienna.  Peter was privileged to have known Keith Haring.  He was a great admirer of his works and beliefs.

Here’s to you Peter and all the other Keith Haring fans, enjoy!

Salzburg Austria: Scenic Area

The Hills Are Alive With the Sound of Music! If that melody ever runs through your head then you probably know the mountains around Salzburg, Austria. The scenic exterior shots in the movie were shot right here. (Just for the record most of the interior shots were done on a soundstage in Hollywood.) Salzburg is only a couple of hours from Vienna by train. It made a wonderful, unforgettable day trip. Another one for the bucket list.

Vienna’s 21st District Neighborhood Stroll Photo Gallery

June in Vienna is wonderful.  The weather tonight in Vienna was cool and breezy, just perfect for a late afternoon stroll.

Z and I are staying in a beautiful Airbnb in the 21st District in Vienna. It’s a bit of a distance from the “Inner Stadt” but it’s a welcome respite from the plethora of tourist buzzing around like bees in the city center hive.

Our neighborhood is quiet and charming. As we began our walk to the High Danube Riverfront Park, I decided  to make a photo gallery to share the beauty of Vienna’s 21st District.

Prague Castle, St Vitus Cathedral, Czech Republic Photo Gallery

Prague Castle, begun in the mid 1300s, is considered to be the largest castle complex in the world. On the same site is Roman Catholic, St Vitus Cathedral. Both are a short walk up from the Charles Bridge. However due to the steepness of the climb, we chose to take a taxi up the hill to the castle and take the relatively easy 15 minute walk back down to Charles Bridge. We would recommend that course to you as well.

Bonaccia’s Pizza–18th Anniversary Brunch, Czech Republic

Our 18th Anniversary was The Most Special of Days celebrated with a wonderful meal here in Prague. We had toyed with the idea of taking an Uber down to the castle for lunch at a “Tourist” hotspot. At the last minute we decided to take a recommendation from the guide left by our AirBnB host and eat what real Czechs like for a celebration. That of course is the same worldwide. Pizza. Her choice was a little Italian place a short walk from the apartment. Bonaccia’s Pizza. The place was charming. The food was fabulous! Perfectly prepared. Served with style. And our waiter was the best ever! An unforgettable day. A memorable meal. It doesn’t get any better!

Germany, Spree River Vacation Area

These pics were shot from the window of a moving train while we careened down the tracks from Berlin to Prague. That is in itself a tribute to modern cell phone cameras. The Spree valley is gorgeous as I hope you will agree. Not seen in the pics due to the speed of the train are many adorable little campgrounds full of camper vans, and tents. The river was smooth running most of the route but was full of kayaks and inflatables. Mountain hikes, bike paths, river boats, it looks like a wonderful place to spend a relaxing summer vacation. I was sorry that our travels did not leave time for a few days in this lovely spot.
